During summer 2019 I entered KUOW Public Radio’s T-shirt design competition. I was selected as a finalist by the station and won the contest by a public vote. Designs were required to positively reflect KUOW, NPR, and the Puget Sound region. My T-shirt was featured as a thank you gift for KUOW’s 2019 fall membership drive.
To create my design, I recorded myself saying KUOW’s tagline, “sound stories, sound voices.” I used that audio file to export a high resolution and detailed waveform. I vectorized the waveform in Illustrator, replacing the upper half of the waveform with trees I silhouetted and vectorized. Together, the elements convey the natural beauty of the Puget Sound area and the influence of KUOW throughout the region.
